Ok basically I’ve known this guy for a while now, his mother went to school with my father. But I’ve always spoken to his brother rather than him (even though I did like him more) until just recently when I contacted him online and we’ve started talking. There are a few things I want to know actually. Number one, how long should I wait before I ask to meet him again in person (and it has to be really planned because he lives four hours away and I don’t have a car). Number two, do you think he’ll think I was interested in his brother instead of him? Number three, at the moment we can alone talk online so any tips on that would be really appreciated, thanks.

Firstly, try suggesting that you would like to catch up again one day and see what response you get – that should give you an indication of if he wants the same thing. Secondly, as you live four hours away, have you thought about how you are going to make the get together happen? As you say it needs to be planned so having something already in mind would be a good start. As for talking online – keep it light and friendly, that way you’re not leading him on in any way and he’s not leading you on in any way. As you like him already, it would be a shame to jeopardise a friendship if it doesn’t develop any further. Just because you used to talk to his brother more than him, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you were more interested in his brother. Most times people are a little reserved at first so they will talk to another family member (ie a brother or sister etc) rather than the one they actually like until they get to know them better.
