Do You Think People You Talk To Online Are Likely To Be Like You Think Offline? And What Are Your Experiences?

Personally I’ve met the odd person in real life that I’ve met from dating sites and they’ve always turned out differently to how they seemed on the web.
I must admit I’ve only met people that I’ve just emailed or sent messages to, so maybe I was forced to use my imagination more to fill in the blanks.
What are your experiences or feelings on the matter? And do you think that if you meet someone in a chat room or speak to them on messenger etc that you might get a better gist of that person as you’re actually “talking” to them?

I think a lot of times, people are different from the way they appear online. Me for example. I met my ex-b/f online. Online, I could chat with him for hours. When it came to talking in person, I was a bit more shy about it. But maybe him being like a brick wall didn’t help.
I’ve found that unless I already know the person in real life, they seem much different when I meet them in person.
I think that we imagine and create in our minds the way we think those people will be when we meet them and then when they don’t live up to our ideal of them, we are somewhat disappointed.

They always turn out somewhat different in real life.
I have friends who managed to find long-term boyfriends/girlfriends, even wives/husbands via a relationship which started purely online. I never understood how they did it, because for me, I’ve always been quite disappointed when I see the person in real life. Its not that they were significantly uglier in real life than their picture online… its just that they just seemed, well… different, to me in real life. Not at all like how they “sound like” in their emails and stuff.

I have never, and will never, meet anybody with whom I communicate on-line in the real world. The whole reason for using this medium is to sign in when the mood takes me and sign out when the mood takes me. I don’t do messaging. I very rarely reply to e-mails.
I sincerely doubt that the majority of individuals I “meet” on-line would be anything like as bold if we were to meet off-line.
That said, I have come to recognise a number of on-line persona’s that I take something of a shine to, but it’s good to remember that everything on line is superficial and unreliable.
In the end it’s best to take absolutely everything on-line with a pinch of salt, and stick to the real world for making real-world contacts.

My experiences have been awefull..which is why i do not speak to any-body online anymore.
People are fake online..it would be very rare to find someone who would act the same way in real-life, I’m not going to go into physiology of what really goes on in people heads, but because of the anonymity, people can be who they want, live there alter-egos online. I’m not saying every-body online is bad or fake, some-people don’t realise there evan acting in a different way behind the screen, but do you really find out the truth behind some-one you meet on-line..the answer is a HUGE NO.
