I am a guy who is 33 and I am new to online dating sites. I’ve only tried one so far and it is free. It kind of seems like a real longshot for a guy though. My brother says that hundreds of guys flood women’s inboxes for dates. I don’t know, it just seems like there are more dudes than women on there. Seems like the odds aren’t in a guy’s favor.

I’ve had two 3 month dating relationships, one from Lavalife, one from eHarmony (which I don’t recommend).
The downfall is your gender.
There are 10′s of thousands of profiles on there and the first thing people look for is the physicality.
I think people assume that with so much variety, they may as well pick the hottest people and see if they have compatible interests.
I did a very in-depth profile, passed it by some female friends, they all loved it. Very little response.
You have a woman post a photo saying “i like to shoot pool in a tank top” as her entire profile and she gets 140 emails.
I don’t know the relative #’s, but I know that most guys (if approached by a woman) will hear them out where the reverse is definitely not true.
The thing is there are allot of factors. I met my husband on yahoo personals. But I also went on allot of not so good dates. The key is to find someone your able to chat with. Then graduate to phone and once you know you like each other…meet. That’s how it went down anyway. Thank god both of us were realistic because we are not both supermodels, but we are normal and cute. Our first date was it. But in a way I felt like I already knew him somewhat and liked him so I was just checking to see if the physical attraction was there and it was. So, my point is you definitely need to be realistic about what you want, what you can’t live without and go out there and be real. Mrs. Real will find you….but you may have a few bad dates on you way.
