Homosexuality Forced Onto Eharmony?

Online dating service eHarmony has agreed to create a new website for gays and lesbians as part of a settlement with a gay man in New Jersey, the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General said on Wednesday.
The settlement was the result of a discrimination complaint filed by Eric McKinley against eHarmony in 2005, which will be dismissed under the settlement agreement.
eHarmony was founded in 2000 by evangelical Christian Dr. Neil Clark Warren and had ties with the influential religious conservative group Focus on the Family.
Now, I checked and there are dozens of gay online dating sites. So why is it so important for eHarmony to have one? It’s a private service that receives no money from the government.
What’s next?
Should proctologists (doctors who treat people’s rectoms) be forced to do brain surgery?
Should liquor stores be forced to sell diapers and nipples?
Should steak houses be forced to sell sushi?
What are your thoughts?

welcome to our overly litigious society! every jerk thinks they can sue their way to fame or fortune now,…makes me ill,….
i think certain businesses should be allowed to operate within their own beliefs,..whatever happened to the idea of reserving the right to refuse service to anyone??????

You’re over-generalizing there. But I think the gay web site was formed so that the whole accusation would go away. eHarmony isn’t about court cases and probably the lawyers weren’t cheap.

so that eHarmony won’t give $$$$$$$$$$ money to the gay man..
I think he only wanted the money, I don’t think he cares about
having online dating service website for gays.

Pretty subversive I think. Another example of the right to choose being subverted by the threat of expensive law suits.

I really don’t see what the big deal is, if they want to find love they have every right to.

  • I think the issue was that E-Harmony is such a respected and marriage oriented service that ALL people wanted to be included in it. No one wants to be shut out of a service. LGBTQ people have felt this kind of discrimination for a very long time and have reached a point where we won’t take it anymore if we can do something about it. There is a segment of this community that wants a tradition lifetime relationship. Why sould we be denied that?
