it’s 3 weeks from our travel date from avignon to paris. i’ve been trying to figure out how to purchase tickets online with the youth discount but cant quite figure it out with french websites…
it seems like on the raileurope site it doesnt make a difference whether you are under 25 or not at $149 a ticket.
is this normal for this time of the year?
any tips for how to save some money?
thanks!
If you are in France, walk into one of the stations.
Otherwise, the French website is the best.
On the first page you can select ‘advance search’ which allows you to select the age group, in your case 12-25 ans.http://www.voyages-sncf.com/billet-train…
It is normal that the tickets are more expensive, as there are more people who want to travel and the tickets have been for sale for more than a month already, so the cheapest tickets are already sold.
Often you can find a cheaper train if you change your travel times to less popular trains.
A quick search found one train in the evening still had tickets for less than €50, but maybe on a different date than you want to travel.
In case everything else fails, you can ask a travel agency, you pay for their services, but if they can find you a much cheaper ticket it will be worth it.
