I met my “best friend” online here at Yahoo Answers almost a year ago. He lives 3000 miles away and we have no intentions of meeting in person because neither of us can afford it. We talk on the phone daily about work, the economy, my family, his family, movies, everything two people who actually see each other would talk about. We try and have dinner at the same time and we play Scrabble online and watch music videos.
He inspires most of my angry poetry and some of the kind ones too! We both have grown so much and realize now more than ever, the kind of people we want in our lives as a spouse or significant other. We both have had lackluster relationships in the past and vowed to no longer accept just anyone just to be able to say we have someone. More him than me cause I have always chose to be alone than to be in bad company. But he helped me see that not everyone should be held to the standard I hold for myself.
But like I said, we have never met in person and I doubt that we ever will. He understands that when I meet someone in “real life”, he will in essence, become second. But he also knows that I will always love him.

I winked on December 28. He e-mailed on January 1. We met for breakfast on January 7. Very new, but so far so good. (Match.com). We only talked on the phone once before the meeting. I told him I liked to “get the first meeting over with fast” and he agreed. lol It was “like” at first sight, but not “head over heels love at first sight” which I don’t trust.
I like online dating, but it’s time consuming to really do it right. It’s worth it to learn the particular site you are on and use all the tools. I don’t go for a lot of “bonding” before I meet someone, because there are too many used car salesmen out there–they know how to say what you want to hear. Until you meet them, you really cannot get a true read on who they are or compatibility with you.
After I meet them in a public place and get a little personal info, I run a simple background test to see if certain things line up (where they’ve lived, how many siblings, how many exes and yes, you can get this free from US Search, as well as pay for more detailed background info). I learned this the hard way, AFTER I had someone in my home and then did the background search. It’s quite creepy.

use a lot of details about yourself but don’t go into a long story. It makes it long and boring. I was on http://www.plentyoffish.com its free and a lot of singles use this site. It asks you questions about yourself and you answer them as best as you can. It will give you people that are compatible. I was on there for about 2 months and the whole time a guy kept trying and trying to talk to me. Turns out once I gave him a chance online we decided to meet and now we are living together and happily engaged…I hope this helps try this site out its free what do you have to lose??? Good luck

I didn’t meet my wife directly through online dating but met her through a friend I had met online. I did date many I had met that way. Best advice I could give is to treat it only as an introductory service. You still have to get to know one another face to face. And be careful.

Three days, she ended up being a beast. Girl scared the living hell out of me. Pictures lie online and people are crazy. You can at least get some though.
