Online Dating Q – Should I Get A Low End Professional Picture, Like Sears Or Use Something Else?

Should I go to a professional photographer or just get a friend to take my picture? I’m a transwoman – so I think there is an upside and downside to each approach. Professional pix – upside, it will look good / downside – the viewer will think that it is “doctored”. Picture done by a friend – upside – legitmate and not “doctored” / downside – not as good b/c of lighting, etc. Any experience/advice?

It doesn’t matter if you are a transwoman or not – any picture you use for an online photo should present you in the best possible light. I met my fiance online (we’re getting married next month) and the photo I used was taken with a digital camera by my adult neice. It showed me smiling and it showed my best features. You want to be honest with your photo, but make sure that you present yourself in the best way possible to give the best impression to those who are viewing your photo. It isn’t necessary to get a professionally done photo. Just make sure the picture is clear, that you are smiling (that looks much better than a serious picture), that the background doesn’t distract from your picture and that the photo presents you favorably (plays up your good points).
    Good luck!

I would say you want to find someone that likes you for who you are and not for a doctored picture. I say use the picture that best portrays who you are.

Uhm, do both. You’ll still only be paying for the one, as your friend will likely do it free. Then people can see the glamorous you, and the regular you.
So yeah, do both, easy decision.
