    I believe OKCupid.com is still free and seems like it attracts an interesting crowd.

    I am not aware of any legitimate ones, but if you browse the space sites (myspace, tagworld, yahoo 360, etc) you can read others’ profiles and if you like what you see, you can send messages and go from there. That might be the safest yet. You can locate people in your area and there are guidelines and restrictions for everyone who use the sites. I hope that helps. Are you new to the area, or just being online? Just don’t lie about yourself, and don’t say or tell things others don’t need to know (like your address or telephone number). Request photos also.
